I’m certain you’ve been asked, ‘do you love your job?’ on more than one occasion. Which is why it’s important for you to review your life from time to time and determine if you are on the right path.

Unfortunately, after looking back, you may find that your current job is no longer your passion. At this point, you can either take action towards change or simply continue on the same path. The choice to continue can be quite depressing.

So I will start by stating some basic facts. My goal is to answer the question of if your current career is born of passion or just an income. The results will guide you on the next steps to take and probably offer the courage to stick with your decision.

Passion is described as a feeling of enthusiasm towards something. This feeling is always intense and pushes you to participate in the activities relevant to such a thing. For example, if you are passionate about being a mom you would spend time on activities that involved your children such as caring and providing for them, family play time, or whatever works for you.

When it comes to your career, passion would mean doing that thing you love. It involves choosing a career because you can almost taste the goodness of waking up each morning to serve your ideal customers and do it with a smile and sense satisfaction. Your passion for the product or service you provide would be your daily motivation.

Your current job may be rewarding and noble, however, if you don’t love it it’s harder to reach your full potential and live a more fulfilling life.

If you review your life and find that your current job isn’t your passion, then it’s probably just an income. It’s not uncommon to choose a source of income over passion to provide for yourself and your family.

A large number of people choose careers that are lucrative because they aim for money. They do not make this choice out of passion or love for the career. The disadvantage of this choice is that the career might get frustrating along the way.

You may begin to feel like something’s always missing or desire the thrill of working for yourself. It may take some time before you are frustrated enough to take action.

The important thing to know when this happens is that it’s never too late to follow your dreams or pursue your passion. After all, they say joy begins at 40.

What it takes to become an entrepreneur

An entrepreneur is someone who owns a business or takes on financial risks to make profits. Entrepreneurship can be quite demanding because it requires time, funds, and commitment. Nevertheless, it is always worth it to work for yourself!

Entrepreneurship gives you independence in your income and flexibility to get paid even while you sleep. Your success in your chosen niche or venture will depend on how much effort you put in and how much value you provide.

Learning is the first step you must take before diving into the practical part.

You may be considering quitting your job to go into business or entrepreneurship, which is where your heart lies. Or you may equally consider doing both initially while getting started.

Quitting your current job to become a full-time entrepreneur can be a good decision and a successful one depending on the steps you take beforehand.

If you were to quit your job, you may have more time to learn and grow your business. Substantial profits can also be made faster. You may also feel happier and more fulfilled, which are significant benefits.

However, if you prefer to keep your job while starting your business, growth may be a bit slower. The major advantage of this option is that it allows you to maintain a decent income while steadily developing your business. When the business becomes lucrative enough, you can decide to quit and give undistracted attention to your new business.

Tips for becoming an entrepreneur

Entrepreneurship might not be easy but it’s definitely worth it! The first thing to remember before you quit your job is that you need a decent amount of savings or some means to pay your bills.

Don’t quit your job without having a secure and steady stream of income to help you stay afloat while you build your business. That would be a recipe for disaster.

Spend time developing ideas and a solid plan. Choose the most suitable one and then streamline your learning process to be relevant to your business plan. Use the following tips for a smoother transition into the life of an entrepreneur.

  • Validate your idea to ensure it’s doable.
  • Set goals and work hard to reach them.
  • Research the market and learn who or where your consumers are.
  • Don’t fear your creativity when it comes to being an entrepreneur.
  • Be accountable for every part of your new business.
  • Adjust to the required level of productivity.
  • Get help when you need help

It is important to know that as an entrepreneur, the learning process never stops. The markets are dynamic and require you to stay updated. Also, you must have the mental stamina to face challenges or setbacks.

Sometimes things may not go as planned and it may threaten your sustainability so learn to become effective at solving problems and salvaging losses.

With time and effort, any business can become wildly successful. If you take the right steps and following your plan, you will not regret your decision to pursue your passion instead of an income.

All the best,

Dr. Antwala
